When I scan color slides, the scanner will often truncate portions of the slide close to the edge of the cardboard mount, forcing me to do multiple scans and then use ICE to make a new composite image that gives me the full image of the original slide.

I don't know why the scanner does this but it is annoying as all get out. When I scan something, I simply want the scanner to scan the entire image that I give it. I even used it to reproduce color transparencies from the 1940's and 1950's that had never been seen before and I was able to share them with thousands of fanciers on Facebook. It does an amazing job and my Epson scans can be tweaked to, well, perfection. I bought my first Epson Scanner in 1994 with my first Macintosh computer. That scanner came bundled with Photoshop 3.0 and I have been a loyal customer with Apple, Adobe and Epson ever since.

My main use is for scanning film in 120 and 35mm, both color and B&W. The settings allow for good configuration tuning. My only complaint is that the software is a bit primitive.

For instance, it does not allow auto thumbnail recognition in 35mm, except for standard full frame (24 x 36mm). I have to scan a lot of panoramic and half frame negative strips in 35mm; it is a pain to select manually each frame. This is quite surprising since in 120 all the sizes may be configured without any problem - and it works wonderfully. You may need to look for third-party software!

I bought this for the multiple photo scan into individual files feature. I had this with an older All-In-One printer and found out that is a rarity in All-In-Ones. The only negative is the location of the Start Buttons on the front of the device. They are located directly under the area where you open the lid. I use the software on my computer to control the device, but many times, when opening the lid to clear the photos, it is too easy to touch the buttons and start another unwanted command.

Other than that, this is an awesome device and so far I am impressed.
